A little disclaimer for ya: I don't pretend to be a tremendous golfer. I'm a pretty average player, with pretty reasonable expectations. But, don't let that scare you away. I'm guessing that, if you're reading this text, then you're not Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson. You're probably an average golfer like myself. So read on, and enjoy these reviews from the perspective of an 18 handicapper.

Review for:
Ensenada, Baja, Mexico "Bajamar" |
| ¿Usted está buscando un buen curso de golf? Don't be afraid of the drive or the short, camouflaged Mexican fellows with the M-16's. It's a great taste of Mexico, even if you're in a guarded, gated resort where everyone speaks good English. At least the bar and restaurant are authentic. You certainly can't argue with the view. A few of the oceanside holes look like something from Pebble Beach. But for about $300 less a round. Bajamar website |

Barona Indian Reservation, California "Barona Creek" |
| Attention, cowboys! We're having a pow-wow in Wildcat Canyon. And bring your Winchesters, because this course is a long, long shootout. As long as you can tear yourself away from the cards and dice, the fastest greens west of the San Diego River are waiting for you.Barona Golf Web Site |

Bonita, California "Bonita Golf Club" |
| If you're a big fan of value-packed golf courses like Balboa Park or Coronado, then you're going to really like Bonita. It doesn't have the hills and valleys of Balboa, but it's got some water on it. And the pace of play is certainly better. I've had some great luck showing up spur-of-the-moment and walking on. |

Review for:
Santee, California "Carlton Oaks" |
| As you enter the heartwarming suburban community of Santee, and you pass legions of relocatable homes, you might wonder why you've ventured to this land of 40oz beers and broken-down cars, floating on cinderblocks. Well, your destination is a little jewel in the rough, called Carlton Oaks. Bordered on two sides by highway, the players can barely hear the rumble of traffic. And you really can't see the roads at all. The designers of this course did a wonderful job of leaving visible just the most scenic views which Santee has to offer. Lush greenery, rolling hills, and handsome water holes garnish this resort course.Calton Oaks Web Site |

Review for:
Rancho Bernardo, CA "Carmel Mountain Ranch" |
| The course changes ownership once a year like clockwork. But really the only effect on the golfer is in greens fees and happy hour specials. The driving range still sucks. And the course is still well-maintained. Some great twilight rates are a good excuse to try out this course for the first time. Try not to tee off too late, because you could miss a couple great holes along the back nine. |

Review for:
Coronado, California "Coronado Municipal" |
| Did you ever read "Old Man and the Sea"? Good book, not as good a golf course. 7 days a week, the geriatrics flock to Coronado Island for a leisurely walk around these links. It's a nice course, but you can expect some delays. Flat tire on a wheelchair. An argument about the government. Even a surprise sale on prunes can grind your round to a halt. Review for:
San Diego, California "Mission Trails" |
| We've all tried playing 2 rounds of golf in one day. Right? Takes a solid 8 to 10 hours? Well, here's your chance to spend that much time on one round. Hopefully, you're paired up with a couple interesting people, because you're in for a lot of conversation during the longest round of golf you've ever experienced. |
